Montgomery Canal

We walked along the Montgomery Canal twice during our holiday - once going north from Welshpool and once south.

A cantilever bridge. Two upright black posts and then two white crossbars with wires descending to the far side of the bridge.
We were lucky to see this cantilever bridge in action and it could be operated by one man using the balance of the weights.

Cantilever bridge raised with boat passing beneath.
Here it is raised.

A lock across the canal with a small cottage and a white wheel for operating the lock.

A plump wooden man. Bald with his hands in his pockets.
I believe this jolly fellow is a shipper of lime up and down the canal. There was an information board but I've forgotten his name.

B standing on the towpath before a bridge.

A lake beneath a blue sky with a small island in it with a large tree.
The southward leg started at a nature reserve. This is taken from within the bird Hyde.

Looking down on B walking the towpath.
