Picture of a slighty saggy white toy cat (probably) on a pink table

According to the caption in my photo album the above picture is of "Tea Bag" and was taken at the Falcon 1 Dr Who convention in 198(mumble mumble). I was going to add that I've no idea what the significance of "Tea Bag" was, but I've just recalled that the UNIT regulars (or at least Richard Franklin and John Levene) had a play at (maybe) the Edinburgh Fringe called The Great Tea Bag Mystery. Presumably this involved a stuffed toy cat called "Tea Bag".

I think it was at Edinburgh, though TARDIS.wikia.com is unhelpful. This webpage says "The play was subtitled "The Great T-Bag Mystery", something which has often puzzled those who did not see it. The reason for this was revealed at the very end of the play when the Prime Minister has disappeared, only to be found in a teapot after a close encounter with a Tissue Compression Eliminator..."

I vaguely recall it being suggested somewhere that this was supposed to be T for Thatcher = old bag. Of course, these days Franklin is associated with rather more right-wing political views. Anyway, no stuffed toy cats, apparently.

I don't remember it doing so. I'll see if I can exhume it later on, but in the meantime here's a near-contemporary review from Matthew Newton: http://www.mjnewton.demon.co.uk/drwho/recall.htm

Oh, that's the same review Daniel linked to - apologies to you both.

I now have an album up of the advert for the play from the August 1984 Celestial Toyroom, and the review from the October 1984 issue. The cat seems to have been a prop for Richard Franklin's performance of 'Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow-Wow'.

There was a kid's TV character at the time called T-Bag and involved time traveling kids collecting spoons?

The cat presumably plays the tissue compression-eliminated Margaret Thatcher...

That's what ends up in the teapot... unless the cat was there earlier... perhaps a review of the convention might reveal something. There must be one around somewhere, but not necessarily online.
