Segdunum

Chesters Museum

Chesters had the best walls.

Housesteads

Vindolanda. I look terrible in this photo and while I was pretty fed-up when we got to Vindolanda (it was a mile and a half walk from the wall along surprisingly busy single track roads so not even a pleasant walking experience) I had actually perked up by this point.

Vindolanda Museum

Birdoswald had a later building in one corner but we didn't actually go into the fort to see it (this was taken from outside) because
a) this was when B's knee was at its worst and we were a bit worried we would have to take things very slowly for the rest of the day, b) we had stopped for tea in the fort cafe where they had run out of clotted cream and so gave B. squirty cream with his scone and jam and this did not make us feel well-disposed towards the place.

Date: 2017-09-06 05:09 pm (UTC)The Fortman was probably the best bit about Segdunum which was otherwise just stones set into gravel pathways. Though it did have a reproduction Bath House which probably would have been worth a visit if it had been open, and an observation tower from which you could look down upon the fort layout which was also not open (though in that case because we were there before 10am, not because it was closed for the season).
